If you have a folder of photographs and images you’d like to resize or edit, and they need to all be processed in the same way, then the batch process in Photoshop is the way to go, especially if you’ve got lots of photos/images to edit.
Firstly, you need to put all the photos you want to process the batch function on in the same folder. I’d also recommend you take a backup of this folder just in case (better safe than sorry!). You also need to create a destination folder where you want to save your batch-processed files.
Once you have your images in a single folder, you then need to create an ‘action’ in Photoshop, which can be a series of steps, eg, resizing, applying filters, cropping the image, etc. Once recorded, you can call up this action in the batch process window. I’ve popped the steps required to perform a batch process below.
1. Record Action
Windows / Action – Create New Action and click Record
2. Perform the process you want to repeat – eg, Resize images
3. Save Image – using the settings you want to use.
4. Click Stop – this has now saved and recorded this new action.
5. Run the Batch Process
File / Automate / Batch
6. Select the Action you want to use
7. Choose the Folder your original files are in
8. Choose Destination Folder for actioned / resized files
9. Click OK – this should run the desired batch process
10. All Done – Your processed files should now appear in the destination folder.
